As part of the Berlin Light Festival, this temporary installation at the Aufbau Haus occupies a 60-meter-long open passage spanning six levels.
Like a canyon cut into the mass of an urban block, such a space can feel unfamiliar and impersonal. We reinvented the space, fully transforming its atmosphere through our light and sound animation.

Immersive Light and Sound Experience
Immersive Light,
Sound Experience
During the day, the Aufbau Haus functions as a multifunctional space hosting cultural institutes and design- and publishing-related companies. At night, however, the passage remains empty and unused.
The installation invites visitors into the nighttime world of the Aufbau Haus courtyard. Light is projected onto textile surfaces and choreographed with sound, creating an inner landscape and immersive environment within the building.

Textiles and Shadows
Textiles are cut in rhythms reminiscent of musical notation and suspended under the bridges to form three-dimensional shapes. Light and sound are composed of overlapping sequences that vary in intensity, speed, color, and density.
The animated light transforms the perception of the strictly defined architecture, while the facades are dematerialized as glass and metal surfaces become projection screens for light and shadows.

Travelling Sound
The sound sequences use the form of a canon to accentuate the length of the space, the immateriality, and the passing of time.
The inner core of the building is suddenly perceived as an attractive inner street for the public. The atrium is reanimated at night through sound and light, which will also be very visible to the passing crowd on the street.
The installation creates in its own volume surrealistic landscapes. Rain sounds will provide an ambient background that will flood the exhibition volume, taking advantage of its reverberant acoustic properties. The visitor will feel like it is raining outside although it is raining inside.
Single sound objects travelling though the space, following the light trajectories and canon patterns, will punctuate this ambient background as they horizontally fall through the length of the space. The overall experience is an immersive, moving sound landscape in which non-tangible but spatially perceptible sound objects are evolving.
The sound sequences employ a canon structure to emphasize the length of the space.
Sound travels through the patio, following light trajectories and creating a three-dimensional musical score. Individual sound objects move through space, punctuating the ambient environment in sync with the light animation. At night, the atrium is reanimated through this interplay of sound and light.
